US bankruptcy judge to Tim Eyman: Pay up $278,137.92
A U.S. Bankruptcy Court has ordered gubernatorial candidate Tim Eyman to comply with a court-approved plan and immediately pay $278,137.92 in contempt citations he has piled up by not producing financial records in a campaign kickbacks case brought by Washington Attorney General Bob Ferguson.
The ruling required significant monthly payments until all court penalties are paid in what has become a two-year legal battle between the initiative promoter and the AG's office.
"This order reflects the significance of the contempt Tim Eyman has shown the court and public: Washington taxpayers will now get what they are owed for Tim Eyman's illegal obstruction," Ferguson said in a statement.
As of Thursday, Eyman's contempt sanctions totaled $341,250, of which Eyman had previously paid $59,750. Chief Judge Marc Barecca of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for Western Washington ordered Eyman to pay $270,000 by April 19th, plus $8,137.93 in another campaign finance case over improper accounting by Eyman's "Tougher to Raise Taxes" committee.
