Smoky skies could return to Washington this week
It's the news no one wanted to hear: after a week of fall rain, smoky skies may be returning to Washington from wildfires in northern California.
The National Weather Service is currently predicting that smoke will arrive in the Evergreen State between Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning and will last for 2-3 days.
The agency said that southerly winds high in the atmosphere are currently pushing the smoke north along the coast of the state. However, air quality is not expected to be impacted.
"At this time, air quality agencies do not expect a major impact at the surface. Most sites should remain in the good category with perhaps a few sites falling into the moderate category," wrote the agency in a briefing Tuesday morning. "This will not be anything like the smoke event earlier this month."
