Multicare urgent care doctors threaten strike over lack of PPE

AUBURN, Wash. -- Doctors who work at Mulitcare's Indigo urgent care clinics are blasting the company for what they claim is a dangerous lack of protection and are threating to go on strike if the company doesn’t provide them with more personal protection equipment, or PPE.

The doctors union says the company is not giving them N95 masks and forbids doctors from bringing their own.

"Multicare’s assembly-line approach and emphasis on profits poses a serious public health threat, especially as COVID-19 cases spike throughout the region," a union spokesperson said in a press release late Wednesday. It comes a day after Multicare announced a COVID-19 outbreak at their Auburn hospital had sickened five employees and eight patients, while one patient had died.

Thursday, Multicare responded with a statement that says in part: "Throughout the pandemic, Multicare has rigorously protected staff and worked hard to deploy the appropriate PPE to the appropriate care setting. All our urgent care clinics – and all clinics at Multicare – have adequate PPE."
