Seattle startup will leave Pioneer Square due to safety concerns

Software startup Syndio may be the next Seattle company to move its offices in response to safety concerns around its Pioneer Square offices.

Syndio CEO Maria Colacurcio said the company has not to renew its sublease after facing a series of break-ins. Employees are working remotely until at least September, while leadership determines where and how the company will work moving forward.

Syndio, which develops software that helps companies address pay equity, might move toward a hybrid remote and in-person model after the pandemic, Colacurcio said. As for where the company's office will be located, Syndio still wants to have a presence in the Seattle tech scene.

"We want to stay in our city. We want to support the tech boom and growth, and support that community that is so robust and thriving in our city. But from a logistical place of business, it's getting really tough to figure out where to be from a safety perspective," Colacurcio said. "I'm struggling to figure out how to continue to be a part of this awesome tech community in the city of Seattle while balancing employee safety and figuring out where we can be."
