Seattle metro area earns top spot in study of where wages have grown the fastest in 5 years

Wages in Seattle have grown significantly in recent years, earning the metro area the top spot on a new list of metro areas where wages have shot up the most.

A new study from HireaHelper found the Seattle metro area saw a 10.4% 5-year increase in average wages, adjusted for inflation.

To conduct the study, researchers looked at data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics's 2019 and 2014 Occupational Employment Statistics data (OES). That is the most up-to-date data available.

But, the study does not take into account the influence the coronavirus pandemic likely had on average wages in the city and across the country over the past year. Thousands of people in the region lost their jobs during the coronavirus pandemic, and many are continuing to struggle without a steady income.
