Seattle prepared to establish mass vaccination sites, Durkan says

Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan predicts that by late spring or early summer the city will have "a significant amount of vaccine" and able to inoculate "thousands of people per day."

Durkan spoke with the Business Journal on Thursday about a range of topics, from frustration over the pace of the vaccine rollout, the desolate state of downtown and Kroger Corp.'s decision to shutter two QFC stores due to the city mandating a hazard-pay boost for grocery store workers.

On Feb. 29, 2020, the Seattle-King County Public Health Department confirmed the nation's first coronavirus-linked death in Kirkland, where dozens of residents at Life Care Center reported symptoms.

Over the next 24 hours Seattle went from "we think we're OK to we're not OK, it's here," said Durkan, who recalled how there was no testing in place.
