Improved roads, bike lanes, sidewalks in Seattle's Green Lake neighborhood

A construction project five years in the making has concluded in the Green Lake area, providing safer roads for everyone

The construction project in the Green Lake and Wallingford areas has been completed, creating a safer environment for bikers of all abilities. The project totaled over six miles of repaved streets, more than 500 new or upgraded curb ramps to meet ADA guidelines, nearly 4 miles of new or enhanced bike lanes, intersection improvements, sidewalk repairs and more.

On North 40th Street, from Stone Way to Latona Avenue, improvements include over 100 upgraded or new curb ramps, sidewalk repairs in high-trafficked areas, rapid flashing beacons for walkers and maintenance of street trees.

From Phinney Avenue North to Roosevelt Way Northeast on North 50th Street, crews widened bike lanes from Phinney Avenue to Stone Way. The striping of the bike lanes was also retouched to be clearer and more visible. On-street parking was maintained, better separated from the bike and walking traffic by the retouched striping. Over 170 curb ramps were added or updated. Rapid flashing beacons were installed at some intersections, and more are still being redesigned for improvement.
