South Kitsap brush fire spotted from airplanes burns two acres

SOUTH KITSAP – A brush fire off Wicks Lake Road spotted from airplanes flying overhead burned about two acres Tuesday night.

South Kitsap Fire and Rescue responders were initially called out to an unknown type of fire at about 7 p.m., Lt. Laine Desilets said. Their response was upgraded as those flying in "multiple" airplanes overhead saw the fire and reported it to an airport tower, which then relayed the news to emergency responders, she said.

It's estimated the fire burned about two acres, but there was no immediate threat to any structures and no injuries occurred in the incident, Desilets said.

A large volunteer response aided in helping to contain the fire alongside career firefighters.
