Snohomish County reports 12 heat-related deaths amid sweltering weather

The Snohomish County Medical Examiner's Office said Friday that it has recorded 12 heat-related deaths in the county amid sweltering temperatures and smoky, hazy skies that have blanketed the region over the past few days.

In a social media post, the county said nine of its victims were men who ranged in age from 45 to 77 years old, and three of the victims were women, ranging in age from 66 to 84.

The county said all of the victims suffered from hyperthermia or heat stress before their deaths.

Several cities and counties have opened cooling centers for people in need of relief from the hot weather. Go here for a list.
