'Our hearts are heavy': How a Seattle restaurant is helping incoming Afghan refugees
When disasters hit anywhere in the world man-made or natural restaurants from that place are often the first to rally help locally.
As public-facing representations of those cultures and gathering spots for those from that country, they tend to know the best place to send money or other aid, and have the means to raise funds. Right now, Wallingfords Kabul Afghan Cuisine is doing exactly that for the incoming refugees arriving from Afghanistan.
Though limited in hours because of staffing struggles and per their Facebook post despondent about what is happening there, the restaurant announced it will donate 10% of its sales for the next 60 days to the Afghan Health Initiative. The local non-profit was founded by immigrants and refugees from Afghanistan and aids incoming refugees from Afghanistan as well as Iraq and Somalia in King County.
Our hearts are heavy witnessing the conditions in Afghanistan, the restaurant said in the post about the fundraiser, which also thanked customers who have messaged or called wishing sympathy with the people of Afghanistan.
