Clever Washingtonians will now have an extra week to help the state's Transportation Commission come up with a name for its new hybrid electric ferry.
The commission issued a call-out in July seeking name suggestions for the newest vessel in the 21-boat fleet, which hasnt seen an addition since 2016. Last week, the commission pushed the deadline from Oct. 1 to Oct. 8.
We extended the deadline just to allow those working on proposals a bit more time, Executive Director Reema Griffith said in an email. We dont typically get many proposals before the deadline, given it takes some time to put them together.
Griffith said her agency has received 353 submissions so far. After Oct. 8, the seven-person commission will select a name from the suggestion pool.
