Staffing shortages force cancellations on several Kitsap ferry routes
Dozens of Washington ferry sailings were cancelled on two popular routes Thursday because there weren't enough qualified workers.
About 20 sailings on the Seattle/Bainbridge Island route were impacted Thursday, according to Washington State Ferries. Ten sailings were cancelled on the Anacortes/San Juan Islands run, KOMO-TV reported.
In addition, on Friday the Walla Walla was moved to the Bremerton-Seattle route, which was running late on early routes, due to a lack of Coast Guard documented crew for the Chimacum, which has been serving as that routes only vessel recently. That move resulted in Bainbridge dropping to one boat service for Friday, canceling another 17 sailings to Seattle.
The Southworth route was also reduced by one boat for Friday due to crew shortages, according to WSF.
