Unseasonably chilly: Seattle sees coldest early-October day in over a century
After a summer that saw record-breaking high temperatures, Seattle is finally getting a taste of fall with some unseasonably chilly temperatures.
With a low of 36 and high of just 50 averaging 43 degrees, Tuesday marked the coldest day in early October since 1899, when temperatures averaged 43.5 degrees, according the the National Weather Service (NWS) in Seattle. And Wednesday also has the potential to make history for the season: the record low temperature for the day is 53 degrees, recorded in 1956. The forecast maximum for the day is currently 53 degrees.
However, an incoming warm front moving over the region Wednesday is set to bring slightly higher temperatures for the remainder of the week and chances of light rain showers on Thursday and Friday. Snow levels are expected to rise from 3,500 feet to 5,500 feet by Thursday morning and overnight lows will increase to the mid 40s by Friday.
"Although there will be an upward trend in temperatures for the remainder of the work week, they will remain on the cool side," NWS wrote in their Wednesday forecast discussion. "Highs in low to mid 50s today and only increasing to the upper 50s to low 60s by Friday."
