Washington's Sno-Park permits go on sale Nov. 1 with increased fees
Washington's Sno-Park permits will go on sale starting Nov. 1, but winter recreationists will likely notice a jump in prices this year.
Sno-Parks are cleared parking areas in close proximity to groomed trails for residents to enjoy skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, tubing and other winter activities. The program is self funded, and has been in operation for 12 years now, creating both permanent and temporary winter parks around the state.
For the upcoming 2021-2022 season, permits will cost $50, up from $40 last year; daily permits will cost $25, up from $20 last year; an annual snowmobile permit will cost $50 this year, up from last year's $40; and special groomed trail stickers will cost $70, up from last season's cost of $40. It is the first time the permit fees have increased since 2009.
"Washington state Sno-Park users enjoy a high-level of service, including cleared parking lots, groomed ski, skate-ski and snowmobile trails, regularly sanitized bathrooms and avalanche beacon check stations in some backcountry areas," wrote Washington State Parks in a news release this month. "The new prices reflect the rising cost of these operations, as well as replacement of aging equipment, including grooming machines."
