WASHINGTON - The U.S. Coast Guard says about 40 shipping containers are adrift off the coast of Washington after a vessel lost containers in rough seas.
According to the Coast Guard the containers are about 43 miles west of the entrance to the Straits of Juan de Fuca.
A helicopter has been deployed to locate the containers. So far eight have been located are are being tracked as they move north.
The vessel was en route to Canada.

(107,920 posts)Most of the crew of a cargo ship anchored near Victoria, B.C., Canada, was evacuated Saturday after containers on the ship caught fire, the Canadian Coast Guard said.
The fire was stabilized Sunday, according to the Canadian Coast Guard.

The ship, the MV Zim Kingston, is the same vessel that lost about 40 shipping containers 43 miles west of the Strait of Juan de Fuca during rough seas on Thursday, according to the United States Coast Guard.
The ship is currently anchored about 5 miles offshore.
