Thousands without power around the Sound

Thousands of customers in Western Washington are without power Monday due to high winds from the weekend storm.

At its peak, about 200,000 customers were without power at some point on Sunday, but that number has been dropping as crews are able to restore power.

Puget Sound Energy’s outage map shows 336 outages affecting more 25,935 customers as of 6:17 a.m.

Seattle City Light is showing outages affecting 13,434 customers as of 6 a.m.

I live in Lewis County and have been experiencing hard wind but not near that bad.

I did do a flashlight round up last night just in case but nothing happened.

I hope they get power back soon.

PSE estimated we'd be without power for about an hour Sunday morning after several high-velocity gusts felled trees and overstressed power stations. I could hear the station nearest us thrumming like drums just before we lost power, knocking out most of the power in Olde Town Issaquah and up through Gilman Village. Our street is also now almost completely obscured by pine needles and other tree debris.

This always happens when we get storms out of the south. Most of the Westerly storms we get are blocked by the Olympics on the Peninsula, but sometimes the Jet Stream lines up just right and funnels high winds into the central Puget Sound. When that happens, I usually consider myself lucky that we don't have to replace fencing due to falling trees or explosive winds.
