King County order to prove Covid-19 status takes effect

King County's requirement for Covid-19 status verifications took effect Monday.

Now, customers at restaurants, bars, movie theaters, gyms, music venues, sports arenas and large events across the county must show they are fully vaccinated or have tested negative for Covid-19 within 72 hours.

"Vaccination is by far our best defense against Covid-19, and with over 87 percent of King County residents having received at least their first vaccine dose, this vaccine verification policy ensures we can protect our community's health and economy," King County Executive Dow Constantine said in a news release.

The county said enforcement will focus on educating businesses that don't comply, though officials will take action if operators receive multiple complaints.
