Flooding predictions for Skagit River downgraded
The National Weather Service has downgraded the Skagit River flood peak in their most recent forecast.
Current projections show the Skagit River reaching minor flood stage Sunday. The river is expected to crest in Concrete at 29.57 feet at about 10 p.m. on Sunday. It will then crest in Mount Vernon at 30.19 feet (moderate flood stage) at about 4 p.m. Monday.
The Northwest River Forecast Center predicts the Samish river will crest at about 4 p.m. Sunday at around 10.90 feet. Forecasts for the Samish River are generally less reliable than those for the Skagit.
These forecast river levels are similar to the first flood stage event from Nov. 11. At these levels, Skagit County officials do not expect to see widespread flooding impacts, but they warn that there continues to be an increased risk of landslides.
