Public electric vehicle chargers come to downtown Everett

EVERETT — A little later and more expensive than initially envisioned, the first public electric vehicle fast-charging stations near downtown Everett are almost ready.

Snohomish County Public Utility District (PUD) commissioners and employees, state Department of Ecology staff, and city representatives celebrated the chargers’ installation Wednesday.

They won’t be energized for public use until a circuit breaker is installed as a failsafe by the end of the month, if not sooner, PUD staff said.

The location in front of the agency where most of the county gets its power was chosen as a crossroads for travelers. It’s near I-5 and U.S. 2, just a few blocks from Everett’s downtown.

infrastructure in place, after all, the more charging places available, the buying public would feel a lot better in knowing that they can drive anywhere (to work, on vacation trips, or just plain driving around, etc.) and find a charging station. Perhaps I'm wrong, but I never seem to hear anything about these companies that are manufacturing these cars installing charging stations (I know that some retailers of the cars themselves have installed but I don't know if this is also true in the public arena).

If Musk has a reportedly $300 billion dollars' worth to his net, you think that he would (or his company would) help contribute more to get more charging stations installed), instead of using tax dollars or public utility commission dollars. I'm not asking Musk to do the whole infrastructure of charging stations, just help install at least a backbone network across the Country, of course this could get expensive but ... wouldn't this help him too, in selling more cars/Tesla's?
