Sea-Tac prepares to break ground on $411M renovation

Seattle-Tacoma International Airport expects to break ground this month on its latest major capital project, which will nearly triple the size of its C Concourse.

The Port Commission approved another $71 million in funding in late July for the new 226,520-square-foot facility. The design aims to evoke the landscape of the Cascades while it incorporates several carbon- and water-reducing features, such as solar panel arrays that will offset 15% of the building’s energy use, low-flow water fixtures and reductions in the steel and concrete used in construction.

Early plans include the addition of four stories to the existing building, a “grand staircase” with seating that overlooks a performance space and an outdoor deck. It will also add new dining and retail spaces and leasable office areas, with a 20,000-square-foot Alaska Airlines lounge on the third floor.

A vertical “folded façade” is designed to provide natural light and a feeling of the outdoors throughout the space.

Great if just transiting. However, should you need to go to SeaTac as a resident. Jamesm9164 Aug 2022 #1

Like many major airports the ground traffic is horrific. Oh well.
