Wildfires flood Western Washington with smoky skies
DARRINGTON Get ready for a hot, smoky weekend.
Winds have pushed wildfire smoke into Western Washington, worsening air quality. Smoky conditions are expected through Sunday, and it may be unhealthy for sensitive groups, the National Weather Service said in an air quality alert.
The smoke is coming from several fires in the North Cascades, according to the Washington Smoke Blog.
Meanwhile, most of the region is under a red flag warning this weekend. The warning means hot, dry weather could spur rapid spread of wildfires.

(4,999 posts)It was not a big fire on Wednesday (Image taken on the Wonderland trail in Mt Rainier, just beyond Panhandle gap and before dropping down into Indian Bar.
The smoke from the fire is coming up in line with the Goat Rocks. Mt Adams is to the right. We could still see Mt. Hood on Wednesday.
Even on Thursday it wasn't a big fire.
Thursday evening, the winds kicked up, and the fire apparently exploded in size. I don't have a picture of it on Friday, but the smoke was massive. We were backpacking, on our way out on Friday.
What a mess.
