US 2, closed from Bolt Creek fire, is scheduled to reopen Monday

The Washington Department of Transportation says it is hoping to reopen a portion of US 2 on Sept. 26.

US 2 is currently closed between Sunset Falls (milepost 36) and Skykomish (milepost 49).

Arborists with the state parks have removed more than 200 trees that have fallen onto the road. They are also working to identify and take down potentially hazardous trees alongside the roadway.

The Bolt Creek fire broke out on the morning of Sept. 10. It has burned more than 10,000 acres and the percentage of completion of operational objects is 95%.

Higher temps and lower humidity have caused flare-ups, which firefighters are continuing to battle. These flareups have also prevented the highway from reopening.
