As trash piles shrink, Snohomish County cancels Sunday closures

EVERETT — Snohomish County has canceled plans to close its garbage drop boxes and transfer stations Sunday.

The decision was made after work crews cleared excess garbage piles and returned the facilities to operational standards for safety, county public works officials said in a release. Locations will be open regular hours, 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The county shuttered the sites last Sunday to contend with an ongoing problem of more material coming in than can be shipped off to landfills, due to a lack of containers and inconsistent rail service.
