Starbucks workers hold protest outside Seattle HQ to demand livable wages
Starbucks workers gathered in front of the company's corporate headquarters in Seattle's SODO neighborhood Wednesday to demand livable wages and a safe workplace.
The protest comes the day before Starbucks' annual shareholder meeting. The list of the worker's demands includes livable wages with consistent scheduling, safe workplaces, and the right to organize free from intimidation, Starbucks Workers United announced Tuesday.
The workers said the protest also serves as a welcome to Starbucks' new CEO Laxman Narasimhan, who assumed the role on Monday after former CEO Howard Schultz stepped down.
In an email to KOMO News, Starbucks responded to the protest by writing, "Rather than publicizing rallies and protests, we encourage Workers United to live up to their obligations by responding to our proposed sessions and meeting us in-person to move the good faith bargaining process forward.”
