400,000 barrels per day of fracked oil coming through WA State
As I said in my last email, even though Washington State is not in any imminent danger of being fracked by oil or gas companies, we have some serious related issues. Please read link below, 'Trains full of N. Dakota fracked oil heading our way'. How much oil? LOTS! 400,000 barrels per day coming through our state. A typical single unit train carries 85,000 barrels of oil.
Dan Serres, the Columbia RiverKeeper conservation director, worries about major derailments of oil trains or a spill along the Columbia River. He says it could have an enormous impact on our area. Plus, the export liquified natural gas and crude oil terminals that are slated for Washington ports pose serious risks for the health of marine life and the overall environment.
So let's not go back to sleep. There is much work to do to get off fossil fuels and on to sustainable energies. Let Washington lead the way in cleaner, cost efficient renewables.
Together we can do it,
Nan
