Is Google expanding to Ballard?
A managing director at Seattle's largest investment bank says Google may expand into Ballard, where the tech industry's presence is growing.
Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) already occupies nearly 350,000 square of space in the Puget Sound region, where it has offices on both sides of Lake Washington in Kirkland and Fremont.
In an opinion piece about the region's white-hot real estate market(subscription required) in Friday's Business Journal, investment banker Jamie Boyd of Cascadia Capital wrote about how Amazon.com (Nasdaq: AMZN) and other companies are driving the market. "Zulily (Nasdaq: ZU) is moving to Belltown, and Google may expand into Ballard," Boyd wrote.
On Tuesday, Boyd said he based the comment about Google on conversations he has had with people in the commercial real estate industry. This isn't the first time Boyd has made a bold statement. In March, he said it is likely that Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba (NYSE: BABA) will establish U.S. headquarters in Seattle.
Google officials and their Seattle real estate broker, Dan Foster of Flinn Ferguson, declined to comment Monday.
