DelBene Joins Colleagues in Introducing Tax Bills to Support Middle Class, Working Families
WASHINGTON, D.C. Congresswoman Suzan DelBene (WA-01) joined tax policy leaders in introducing three bills that would cut taxes for middle class and working families. The legislation expands the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), American Opportunity Tax Credit (AOTC) and Child Tax Credit (CTC).
Strong economic growth can only be achieved when all Americans have the opportunity to succeed. By providing tax relief for working families and the middle class, we can create a fairer tax code that promotes sustained, long-term growth, DelBene said. What we need is a bipartisan solution that simplifies our tax code, helping millions of hardworking individuals and families, and ends special interest tax breaks that havent given us a strong return on investment. Thats why I was pleased to join my colleagues in introducing these important bills so we can get the conversation started on comprehensive tax reform.
Ways and Means Committee Ranking Member Richard Neal (D-MA) introduced the Earned Income Tax Credit Improvement and Simplification Act, which would expand eligibility for the EITC to individuals between ages 21 and 25 who are not full-time students and families with children who do not have a Social Security Number.
Rep. Lloyd Doggett (D-TX) introduced the Expand American Educational Opportunity Act, which would help make college more affordable by increasing the portion of the AOTC that is refundable.
