Mayor Durkan will ask Seattle departments for budget cuts

Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan will ask the city’s departments to trim their budgets by 2 to 5 percent for next year.

“We’re looking at it right now and I’m talking to my budget people,” Durkan said in an interview on KUOW, adding, “We have to be planning for the future in a very responsible way.”

Durkan first hinted at the plan during her State of the City address last month, saying departments would have to “do more with less.”
