Boeing is shifting its Dreamlifter operations center in Everett to its 787 Dreamliner factory in South Carolina, a move that could involve job relocations or losses for 24 Boeing workers.
Dubbed the "fantastic four," Boeing's four Dreamlifters are enlarged 747-400 cargo jets made for Boeing between 2006 and 2008. The aircraft transport Dreamliner wings, fuselage sections and other large components from supplier factories around the world to assembly facilities in Everett and North Charleston, South Carolina.
"Boeing is placing the majority of sustaining 787 Dreamlifter operations in a recently established logistics Center of Excellence in Boeing South Carolina," said Boeing spokesman Paul Bergman.
Bergman said 18 non-union Washington state employees will be affected by Boeing's decision, which was shared with Everett Dreamlifter workers last fall but not publicly announced. Boeing will offer relocation assistance for Washington-based employees, he said.
