Bus tunnel no more: Routes using downtown transit tunnel to move outside Saturday

Another big change will hit downtown commuters Saturday.

Buses will be kicked out of the transit tunnel on March 23, in the next chapter of what officials are calling "the period of maximum constraint."

The adjustment will affect seven routes and 830 bus trips per day. Only light rail services will use the tunnel starting Saturday.

"The long-planned transition of buses out of the tunnel will make room for coming light rail expansions that allow many thousands more riders to glide past gridlock," Sound Transit CEO Peter Rogoff said in a news release.
