Flu 'Surges' In Washington, And Vaccines May Be Less Effective

SEATTLE, WA - The 2018-19 flu season is peaking a little later this year in Washington. State health officials have noticed a sharp increase in flu deaths and hospitalizations in recent weeks, and are warning people in high-risk groups with flu symptoms to go to the doctor.

At the same time, the strain A H3N2 is beginning to circulate. This season's flu vaccine is only about 50 percent effective against that strain, according to health officials.

But even some protection is better than none. If you haven't gotten a flu vaccine, there's still time.

“Last year the flu killed 296 people in Washington and thousands more were hospitalized – which is why you should get a new flu vaccine every year as soon as it’s available,” Washington state epidemiologist Dr. Scott Lindquist said in a statement.

So they could only endanger their own children. I know, that probably sounds very selfish, but I have a four-year-old daughter that I love to death, and the notion of her life being in any danger because someone won’t do something as similar as an inoculation, because of “information” that is easily disproven, terrifies and angers me.
