Inslee signs vaccination bill with 'anti-vaxxer' protest outside

Gov. Jay Inslee chose Clark County, site of more than 71 measles cases, to sign into law a bill that will no longer allow parents to block immunization of school-bound students for personal or philosophical reasons.

The legislation applies to MMR vaccines, which inoculates against measles, mumps and rubella. So called "anti-vaxxers," who jammed Olympia hearings, were on hand outside Vancouver City Hall to voice dissent at the signing.

"What we need to do in the state of Washington is make decisions based on science, based on medicine, and we have to do it to help all of our children," the Governor said at Friday's signing.

The Legislation came within minutes of not passing out of the Legislature. Republicans in the State Senate used delay tactics, trying to keep it from the floor until a 5 p.m. bill cutoff time had passed. Lt. Gov. Cyrus Habib, the Senate's presiding officer, made sure legislation got in under the wire.

The Senate passed the vaccine bill on a near party-line 27-21 vote. It passed the state House of Representatives 57-40, with all opposition coming from Republicans.

I just got vaccinated because I don't know if or when I was as a child. Like many adults I have my own health issues. I don't mind getting the shot again, I do mind being confined to my home to avoid getting sick.

were vaccinated as children and are denying their own kids the right to be disease-free and to also not harm other babies and kids by being a walking viral petrie dish?
