Seattle-area health organizations donate $15M to fight homelessness
Three health care companies are banding together to fight chronic homelessness in the greater Seattle area.
Providence St. Joseph Health, Premera Blue Cross and Swedish Health Services announced Wednesday that each organization is donating $5 million to Plymouth Housing to build permanent housing.
Two health systems and an insurer coming together to tackle the growing problem in the region is an example of different sectors working together toward a sustainable solution, Premera CEO Jeff Roe said in a news release.
Homelessness is a problem that affects everyone and everything in our region, and its impact on the community cannot be solved by operating in silos, Roe said. We must find long-term solutions to homelessness, which will reduce the overall cost of care by decreasing the reliance on emergency health care."
