Magnuson Park Beach Closed For High E. Coli Levels

SEATTLE, WA — Temperatures will get close to 80 degrees this weekend, but if you're thinking about taking a dip in Lake Washington, avoid the beach at Magnuson Park.

King County tested water at the beach on May 20 and found a high concentration of E. coli bacteria. The beach was closed to people and pets on Wednesday.

According to testing data, there were 4,733 "colony forming units" (CFU) of E. coli per 100 milliliters of water. In the last test on May 13, there was just 10 CFU of E. coli.

King County monitors water quality at about 30 beaches along Lake Washington, Lake Sammamish, Lake Wilderness, and Rattlesnake Lake. There are no other closures this week, but water temperatures are still in the low 60s.
