West Virginia University becomes the latest school to backtrack on in-person classes after a spike i

(CNN)After a week and a half of in-person classes, West Virginia University announced Monday it was moving undergraduate classes online after seeing a spike in Covid-19 cases and the occurrence of several parties this weekend at the school.

The Morgantown campus canceled all in-person classes Monday and will host online classes only starting Wednesday through September 25, the school said in a statement. Undergraduate classes started on August 26.

The school said the shift to online classes is a result of the increase in positive cases on the Morgantown campus, as well as reports of parties held over the holiday weekend.

"This pause in face-to-face undergraduate instruction will give us time to monitor the steadily climbing cases of COVID-19," Dr. Jeffrey Coben, associate vice president of health affairs and dean of the School of Public Health, said. "There is increasing evidence that crowded indoor gatherings, such as those that occurred over the weekend, can serve as super-spreader events."

Just like clockwork. Open up in-person classes, students go to parties and then attend those classes - spreading COVID to classmates and university staff. This is not hard to predict.

Seriously. I don't know what collage life .. whatever that is .. is like but the people running the schools should know. Stupid, Stupid.
And... it isn't just this school.
The grade schools should do better because the parents keep better track of the young ones. We will find out soon.

JFC, I don’t even know to say to this.

For the record, I am a professor at this university. I honestly don’t know what you all expect us to do. Parents and students whined and complained that they wanted an on campus experience. So they got one. And all it took was a handful of kids to cause this. My students are working their asses off in non-optimal circumstances. Staff and faculty are working our asses off to provide a clean safe learning environment. Staff are terrified they’ll be fired in the midst of this nightmare. Administrators’ hands are tied by boards of governors, which are more often than not political appointees.
The disdain in this country for higher education is appalling. I am grateful I have the privilege of leaving the US soon.

And the virtual learning seems a mess so far. Not a very good start IMO.
