Walker getting desperate, launching ads in MN and IL to bring jobs into WI

A half million ad buy on cable news stations in MN and IL is designed to poach some of those jobs into WI, not actually create any new jobs just move from outside states. Even if some of these jobs do move, many businesses will offer existing workers to move before hiring new ones fresh in WI. Of course it is hard to make new jobs in WI with the current anti-intellectual strain that is currently infecting the state.

MADISON — Gov. Scott Walker's job creation agency is launching a television ad campaign designed to lure businesses from Minnesota and Illinois, underscoring yet again the intense jostling for jobs between the border states.

Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation officials said two 30-second ads will start running Monday on CNN, CNBC and Fox News in the Twin Cities, Chicago and Rockford. The $537,000 campaign is expected to last eight weeks.

Both ads feature shots of Milwaukee and Madison as well as the Fox River. The faces of a number of Wisconsin executives, including Kohler Co. President David Kohler and Schneider National Chief Executive Officer Christopher Lofgren, appear on the sides of buildings and railroad cars touting the state's workforce and how state government is business-friendly.

"If a company in Illinois, Minnesota or any other state is considering expanding or relocating, we want to make sure that Wisconsin is among the options being considered," WEDC Secretary and CEO Reed Hall said in a statement. "This campaign is designed to help get that message out to those who may not yet be familiar with all Wisconsin has to offer."

Corporations pit one state against the other and wind up not paying fair share in taxes; meanwhile state budgets and local economies suffer.

It's legalized bribery.....and it sucks...the corporations only stay until the subsidies run out and then go fishing for a sucker to give them more.

More State Ad Spending Just As Walker to Begin Campaign(s)

http://thepoliticalenvironment.blogspot.com/2014/01/more-state-ad-spending-just-as-walker.html

That Gov. Walker is about to announce his re-election and still rides the speaking circuit nationally is a coincidence:

The Wisconsin Economic Development Corp. will use close to 10 percent of its $5.75 million annual marketing budget — itself more than triple last year’s $1.5 million budget — for the two ads.....

5. My husband has a question for Governor Walker

How would he feel about an ad campaign run by either Illinois or Minnesota designed to lure Wisconsin businesses to their states?

Governor Walker has this in common with his right-wing, anti-worker buddies John Kasich and Chris Christie ... they can't run a state economy on a bet. Ohio, New Jersey, and Wisconsin are all falling far behind their more progressive neighbors in job creation.

(BTW, my husband is a Wisconsin native, loves his home state, and is disgusted by what has been happening there under Walker's "leadership.&quot

so much for creating 250,000 jobs before his term is up.

The only way he can grab jobs from Illinois is if he gives big tax incentives to potential job creators, which would be basically giving away to farm, which has already happen in my state. Those only stay for a limited time, until a better offer comes along, then they move to another state.

12. And I can't imagine this has any impact

And I can't imagine this has any impact. I mean seriously, most people don't actually change their potato-chip eating habits based on TV ads. I can't imagine a commercial will make a difference to an exec looking to move.

CEO: "Well, _____ is the better choice, but Wisconsin had a snappy commercial!"

So in addition to be a sleazy move in the first place, it's a downright ineffective, wasteful sleazy move.
