Marquette poll finds Walker still ahead of Burke

http://www.ashlandwi.com/news/regional/article_1559e6a6-88f5-11e3-b114-0019bb2963f4.html

Poll also finds public disagreement with Walker on taxes, minimum wage

By Chuck Quirmbach | Wisconsin Public Radio

A Marquette University poll shows Gov. Scott Walker is still leading potential Democratic rival Mary Burke.

The poll of 800 registered Wisconsin voters took place last week, mostly before Walker’s State of the State address. The survey finds Walker polling at 47 percent, and former state commerce secretary and business executive Mary Burke polling at 41 percent. Walker's lead has grown since a similar poll last October; Burke’s numbers have slipped a few points while Walker's haven’t moved, even though his job approval rating is up a bit.

Marquette pollster Charles Franklin said Walker hasn't gotten much of a bounce from good state fiscal news and some bad national headlines for Democrats.

“We have just gone through the health care rollout and the problems with that, and found money in the state budget, so we’re kind of at a high point for Republicans,” said Franklin. “It’s interesting that his vote hasn’t moved.”

Franklin said voters have well-formed views of Walker, but 70 percent of respondents don't know enough about Burke to have an opinion of her. He expects television commercials for and against Burke to soon change that.

1. Why do voters in these repub held states keep voting repub

then whine when they get screwed?
Alabama for example has no money for much of the needed help stranded motorists pleaded for. Yet those same people vote for limited government.
I know not everyone votes repub but enough do.

From what I hear, unemployment is down and they may be getting some kind of a tax rebate. Right or wrong, Walker gets credit for it, and they vote for him.

Run tons of negative ads and outspend Burke. Cut taxes by a few hundred bucks and then shovel truck-loads of money to corps and special interest groups who backed him. Brown-bag candidate my ass.

As much as we need it to happen, I don't think anyone else will step up at this point. If the right person would step up, that person would win the primary and defeat Walker in November. I truly believe the money and power behind Walker will just dismantle Burke. She is not a good candidate in any way apart from not being Walker.

We knew this would happen, of course. And it doesn't even pertain to all the support he will get from outside groups. But Burke is the best candidate because she can put in her own money, right?

Walker raised $5 million at end of 2013, triple Burke total

From July to December, Walker’s campaign spent $2.7 million, leaving the Republican governor with a formidable $4.6 million in cash heading into this election year. . . .

Burke's campaign disclosed earlier this month that it had raised nearly $1.8 million in the final three months of 2013, including $400,000 from the former state commerce secretary's own wallet. That meant that Burke, a former Trek Bycle Corp. executive, didn't have as much time as Walker to raise money, since she announced her candidacy for governor in October.
