Wisconsin Dems, if you were thinking of skipping the August 12 primary, DON'T

Hate radio talkers are encouraging Milwaukee County Republicans to vote on the Democratic side of the ballot to give the fake-Democrat, delusional David Clarke another term as sheriff. Blogging Blue reports that Tommy Thompson has sent out a mailer with the same instruction. If many Republican voters do as they are told, we need every true Democrat to vote for Lt. Chris Moews. Moews has been running an aggressive campaign and is getting a lot of support, but Clarke still does have plenty of admirers, and "every vote counts" is especially true here. There is no Republican candidate for sheriff, so the winner will be decided on August 12. And let's be better safe than sorry with the other important contests on the ballot. (In a low turnout election like this, it's not impossible that the same sort of thing statewide could cut out Mary Burke and give the Democratic nomination to the unknown Brett Hulsey. Gwen Moore also has a challenger who might be attractive to Republicans, the ex-felon Gary George.)

DUers outside of Milwaukee County, have you heard anything similar in your area? We know the other side is not above such behavior. Let's be prudent and make sure we select our own candidates.

If they are true to form, Wisconsin Republican voters have added impetus to crossover, in that they are still smarting over how, in Mississippi, Democrats apparently crossed over in that state's primary to deny a tea party candidate a ballot spot. That happened after incumbent GOP Sen. Thad Cochran, who was in trouble, asked black Dems to support him. This kind of sore spot reverberates among the GOP rank and file, which helps explain why, in the majority of states, Republicans have been busy enacting repressive voter ID laws based on their paranoic suspicion that Democrats are cheating by the tens of thousands. So, yeah, I expect a lot of Republicans to cross over for Clarke and that they'll try to mess up Mary Burke's nomination, too. Don't sit this one out, folks.

crossing over and voting in a Republican primary. Never voted for a Republican before. But my Assembly district has multiple R's running and no Dems, so it's a virtual general election. I'll vote for the least objectionable of the clowns.
