It's not the cowboy hat, rather than a uniform hat, it's not his horseback riding.
I really can't get my head around people voting for a Sheriff's candidate who says it is not the job of the Sheriff's office to protect the community, and urges people to get guns so they can protect themselves.
I can't understand how a community would elect a guy who doesn't believe in 911.
A guy who says he personally wouldn't call 911 until after he shot dead someone confronting him, and he'd only use the talents of the folks who show up to clean up the mess made by the body bleeding out.
I'm relieved I am moving out of the county. This place is going towards vigilantism.

(3,577 posts)The local Democratic Party endorsed Moews as an exception to the general rule of not endorsing in a primary. Many in the party worked very hard for Moews. Clarke just plain lies when he purports to be a Democrat.
The problem here was cross-over voting that Republicans did at the urging of the conservative radio talkers. I think close analysis of the votes in this election will indicate that. In a low turnout election the effect of cross-over voting is magnified. There are also a significant number of African Americans in Milwaukee who like Clarke because he's "tough on crime" (so they have heard) or because they feel good about voting for someone of their race (this latter point was the opinion of an African American who supported Moews).
The open primary (as opposed to asking for one ballot or the other) was considered a reform measure during the progressive era. Voters who cross over negate that principle.

(3,577 posts)There is no Republican candidate on the ballot in November (except the one named Clarke). There is an independent candidate, Angela Walker, who says she is a "free range socialist" whose main issues are social justice, the living wage, and mass incarceration. She has described her work history as being a bus driver and a union representative, but nothing about law enforcement experience. Link:

(3,974 posts)Conservative radio hosts in Milwaukee made re-electing Clarke a high priority in the days prior to the primary, urging Republicans to take Democratic ballots, and their appeals were supplemented by a letter from Thompson that urged Republicans to help Clarke by crossover voting in the Democratic primary.
