State tosses complaint against lawmaker

Madison — State ethics regulators have thrown out a complaint alleging an outgoing lawmaker illegally established a new political group.

The Wisconsin Democracy Campaign last month filed a complaint with the state Ethics Commission contending Rep. Dean Knudson (R-Hudson) could not simultaneously operate his campaign account and a new political action committee he set up this summer called the Wisconsin Liberty Fund.

The Democracy Campaign, which advocates for tighter campaign finance law, contended Knudson was effectively running two campaign accounts.

But the Wisconsin Ethics Commission dismissed the complaint last week, finding there was no basis for it.
