State pays $300K to youth prison inmate for foot injury
The state has agreed to pay $300,000 to a former inmate of the states youth prison whose toes were severely injured after a prison guard slammed a door on his foot, according to the Department of Corrections.
The state agreed to pay the former inmate in September but released the settlement agreement to reporters on Friday.
Tristan Cook, spokesman for DOC, said the settlement is related to an incident that occurred on Nov. 29, 2015, in which a staff member at the Lincoln Hills School for Boys and Copper Lake School for Girls slammed a metal door on the male inmates foot, causing a severe injury to his toes.
The injury is one of myriad allegations made during an investigation into potential crimes at the Irma juvenile facility that has now spanned nearly two years.
