Stolen kitty was part of lovers' spat

GREEN BAY – A Green Bay man is accused of stealing a cat, apparently as a peace offering to his estranged girlfriend.

Seth P. Wauters, 19, is accused of being party to catnapping, a misdemeanor crime that could mean nine months of jail time.

Wauters and his girlfriend were captured on video shoving the kitten, a domestic shorthair tabby mix named Soda, up the girlfriend’s coat Wednesday afternoon at the Bay Area Humane Society, 1830 Radisson St., according to the criminal complaint.

Wauters and his girlfriend, who also will be charged, told police they were splitting up and because one of them would end up with custody of their dog Blue, they decided to steal a cat so that the other wouldn’t be without a pet, the complaint says.

They were at a shelter. Why did not they just adopt the kitten instead of trying to steal her ?

the people to adopt pets to pay a portion of the fees for spaying/neutering as well as vaccinations and local licenses. This guy seems like a real "winner" so I doubt he could afford it.

For example the shelter I volunteer at verifies that the person, if a renter, has permission to have a pet in the apartment.

We ask $100 for a kitten under six months old, which this one sounds like it was. It's still a good deal because spay/neuter, shots, deworming, and microchip have already been done. Just try to pay that little for all that at the vet.
