Bill makes lying on professional license application a crime in Wisconsin
Lying on an application to become a licensed professional in Wisconsin would be a crime under a bill that has been reintroduced in the Legislature.
The bill came following a Milwaukee Journal Sentinel investigation revealing the state licensed serial rapist and bank robber Francis Deisler to be a social worker. Deisler and the state have since agreed that he would forever give up his license here.
It is against the law to lie on the state application, but no punishment is spelled out, so the most the state could do to offenders is take away their license. The bill's author, Rep. Scott Allen (R-Waukesha), said people who lie on forms need to be held accountable.
"The whole idea is that the credential ought to be trustworthy," Allen said.
