Tammy Baldwin likely a 'yes' on single-payer health care, but waiting for bill

EDGERTON — Count Sen. Tammy Baldwin as a "maybe" on supporting a single-payer health insurance proposal.

"Ultimately, I’ll look at the bill when it comes in, but I anticipate I will (support it)," the Wisconsin Democrat told reporters Thursday. "It’s been a long position of mine, and frankly, it’s really time that we address this partisan nonsense that’s been going on."

The ongoing Republican effort to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act has brought a renewed focus to conversations about single-payer health care, also known as "Medicare for all."

Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders has said he plans to introduce legislation soon to propose a shift to a single-payer system that would either reduce or eliminate the role of private insurers in the health care market.
