UW regents set 'guidepost' for campus free speech with no mention of penalties GOP lawmakers want

While reflecting concerns about free speech protections, a "guidepost" for campuses unanimously approved by the University of Wisconsin Regents on Friday does not impose penalties some GOP lawmakers are demanding for student offenders.

Regent Vice President Drew Petersen called it concise and direct.

"And here is what it is not — it is not prescriptive, nor is it punitive in scope," he said. "It is rather a guidepost for our campuses to be alert — to honor opposing views and to promote a civil discourse environment."

The regents did, however, commit to reviewing existing policies to "ensure each of our campuses supports and maintains an environment where civil discussions can occur as students learn, study, and prepare for their futures."

as well as the potential violations of the law.

It is counterproductive to use force or even shout down these loons. That is what the conservatives live for. It is great to be a martyr.

I think counter presentations are a much more valid approach. Perhaps you can get into the same venue either before or after the scheduled speaker (or one near it if that is not possible). Get good speakers to counter these nuts.
