Twenty-three Wisconsinites died between Friday and Saturday in the state’s second-deadliest 24-hour period of the coronavirus pandemic.

Twenty-four died in the same period exactly one week ago.

The current count of positive cases of coronavirus infection statewide stands at 3,255, an increase of 125 since Friday.

About 30 percent of people who tested positive have been hospitalized at some point. As of Saturday morning, 444 people remained in the hospital, 179 in intensive care.

About 79 percent of those hospitalized have required mechanical ventilators.
