Marshfield Clinic Health System to lay off 346 workers across network

It says below one of categories to be laid off are RN's.. They have been replaying RNs with lower positions for some time now and I know because these are my clinics. The lower positions are sometimes on the job training-such as as my eye clinic. lower paid it ends up. These new folks are polite but they just do not have the background knowledge for initial assessments. I end up tell the doc when i get there everything anyway. Such is the times.

“We are not immune to the immense pressure and unprecedented challenges gripping the health care industry in recent years, which has required us to identify ways to be more efficient and more resourceful,” said Dr. Susan Turney, CEO of Marshfield Clinic Health System. “Reducing staff is always painful. This is ultimately about preserving the long-term efficiency and sustainability of our organization.”

The health system has also eliminated more than 500 positions that have been unfilled and no longer recruited. A media release stated that the move has lessened the impact on employees.

IN A CITY OF ~20,000 word/rumors travel fast. Almost everybody in the city knows of at least one or more persons who have been laid off. Sometimes it is an entire department that is terminated at once and replaced by tele-medicine or something else.

Leadership of the clinic has decided to challenge the taxation of clinic properties in a lawsuit that has now entered it's 3rd year...loss of those tax revenues to the City, School Board, and County governments will be devastating if they are successful.

The Marshfield Clinic was at once the shinning start of modern medicine. It has lost it's luster.

They've been challenging the property taxes for what seems like decades. It's ridiculous that they spend so much money on lawyers for that, but investing in decent staffing and clinic/hospital infrastructure has gotten short shrift for as long.

So much whining that they can't hire nurses, but it's bull. They just can't hire nurses for the crap wages, benefits, and hours they want to pay.

I am afraid Marshfield will soon be like Neillsville - reduced to specialized care only and triaging emergency patience before sending them to Wausau.

In some of the smaller, rural communities where there is a MCHS clinic, they are adding on something like a "9 Bed Hospital" facility....there's a reason for that....if they can designate the whole site as a "hospital" then they will declare them tax-exempt and demand a refund for taxes paid.
