GOP lawyers must pay Democrats' attorneys $17,500

By Patrick Marley of the Journal Sentinel

Jan. 10, 2012 5:02 p.m. | Madison - Lawyers hired by the Legislature who were scolded by a three-judge panel last week must pay nearly $17,500 for filing frivolous motions, according to a bill filed with the court Tuesday.

Last week, the panel ruled attorneys with Michael Best & Friedrich had tried to hide from the public how lawmakers went about drawing new election maps for legislative and congressional districts. The judges said the attorneys had to pay the legal costs that a Democratic group incurred for responding to the Legislature's motions to shield GOP aides from having to testifying about the development of the redistricting plan.

On Tuesday, an attorney for the Democratic group told the court its costs came to $17,479.

... the cockles of the heart referes to the chambers of the heart. Take that greenback right out of the lawyers paycheck for fileing frivolous law suits.

But I have a feeling there won't be any more, because the next step is probably a contempt citation and a trip to jail. They aren't that loyal.

With what Walker's aides and "close friends" have been charged with this past week, there are some in the party willing to cross more dangerous lines.
