Workshop on political strategies in rural areas on Saturday in Eau Claire

This was posted on Uppity Wisconsin and may be of interest to DUers in the rural sections of Wisconsin.

Join Senator Kathleen Vinehout and fellow progressives this Saturday, August 18th from 10am-3pm at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Eau Claire for a one-day workshop on developing a rural strategy tailored to your county's unique situation in the political world (event details below).

We learned from the 2010 election and the recent recall elections that we cannot win in rural areas with the same old strategies. Party leaders and campaign staff focus their strategies on urban areas, where the "low-hanging fruit" is in easy-to-reach clusters. We need to take the initiative and create a rural outreach strategy that successfully promotes progressive ideals and works to elect progressive Democratic candidates in rural areas.

Western Wisconsin Grassroots Rural Strategy Workshop

When: Saturday, August 18th from 10am-3pm (at the latest)
Where: Unitarian Universalist Church (421 S. Barstow St.) in Eau Claire
Who: Anyone interested in working on a rural strategy and energizing voters in rural areas or any grassroots organization working on progressive issues.

Workshop Topics
Why a rural strategy?
72 County Strategy - Like Howard Dean's 50 State Strategy, make sure we are active and working toward progressive Democratic ideals in all of Wisconsin's 72 counties.
What do we need to do? - Develop an outreach strategy for messaging, isolate issues important to your county, develop a compelling rural narrative.
Prioritizing outreach - 90 days to election day
Breakout Session - Indirect voter contact through media, rural voter outreach, spring elections, communication strategies
Building and maintaining this coalition
