"... it was the Legislature’s intent to allow adverse (environmental) impacts."

Mining bill author (wink, wink) admits the mining bill allows for harming the environment.

In a surprising admission yesterday, Tom Tiffany, the nominal author of SB1, admitted that the bill allows for more environmental depredation in the area of the mine. When pressed on the issue he stated:

“The bill reflects the reality of mining. There are going to be some impacts to the environment above the iron ore body,” said Tiffany, R-Hazelhurst. “If the law is challenged and ends up in court, the judge needs to know it was the Legislature’s intent to allow adverse (environmental) impacts. That way, a judge can’t find fault if the environment is impacted.”

Although this has been obvious from the start, it's surprising to hear Tiffany admit this, particularly after all of the obfuscation from him and the Walker administration that the bill does not lower environmental standards.

Tiffany says that he's "..just being honest." in saying that the mine WILL CAUSE environmental damage. He didn't say that "honestly" and deliberately causing environmental destruction is STUPID. And...in my view...deliberate and "honest" is criminal intent.

I have reposted this on facebook and will shout it to the highest hills! These people are violating the state laws not, not to mention the State of Wisconsin Constitution, which vows to protect the environment of the State. An act to DELIBERATELY ALLOW environmental degradation isn't just a civil case (e.g. sue for damages), it is a CRIMINAL CASE...and Tiffany has admitted to his criminal intent RIGHT UP FRONT.

I am sick to my stomach but can't say that I'm surprised.
